GET INVOLVED

Any students and members of the university community can get involved with University of Toronto Environmental Action (UTEA) in the following ways:

  • UTEA has transitioned to Discord, an online platform, for the upcoming school year. Discord is a free online communication platform in which you can real-time chat, video call and share internet links, images and videos. Once you join Discord, you can join various channels (for example: news sharing, events promotion, etc.) and interact with others who’ve joined.

  • UTEA has chosen Discord for its simple user interface, free registration, and the ability to efficiently organize information relating to our events and other news updates and have a relaxed space for casual conversations unrelated to UTEA. Members (that’s you!) will be invited to the Discord server upon completing our Membership Registration Form.

We have created two digital spaces/categories for UTEA General Members:

  1. UTEA Community:
When you complete our Membership Registration Form you will be automatically added to our newly created UTEA Community. The ethos of this space is in its name—whether you are a long-time environmental activist or would like to become more sustainably-minded, UTEA Community seeks to incite positive, collective action through knowledge-building and communication. Here, you will receive news of monthly socials, general meetings and fun events hosted by the UTEA Executive team. Members will have opportunities to contribute to the environmental justice movement while getting the chance to win prizes! Furthermore, there will be channels for conversing about current environmental issues, for sharing news, articles and petitions and connecting with a wider student community who share a similar interest and passion for the environment. As a UTEA Community Member, you can participate as you like. The UTEA Community is for everyone who is interested in learning about environmental issues and want to stay informed on UTEA’s initiatives, but who might not want to directly contribute to UTEA’s work.

  2. UTEA Teams:
UTEA general members who are motivated to contribute more directly to UTEA’s advocacy and outreach initiatives are encouraged to join UTEA Teams. UTEA Teams members will assist the Executive team in planning, organizing and facilitating events and socials throughout the school year. This is a great opportunity to actively engage with the student body and wider community about the issues you feel most pressing in today’s environmental crisis. UTEA Teams require a more active commitment than the UTEA Community.  Members will be able to directly apply their ideas, talents, knowledge, and experiences in UTEA programming. To join the UTEA Teams server, please select the “Yes” option in our Member Registration form.

In our new digital reality, we are hopeful and adamant that through our UTEA Discord we will be able to provide a welcoming and engaging environment for students of all disciplines and knowledge-level to interact, communicate, and positively contribute to the Environmental Action and Justice Movement!

We hope you can join us!
