GIVE OUR CHILDREN A FUTURE: THE MORAL AND LEGAL OBLIGATION OF THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA TO ACT ON CLIMATE CHANGE

JANUARY 30, 2017

University of Toronto students are releasing a report showing that the climate change policy of the Justin Trudeau’s government is illegal due to its failure to protect Canadian children from future impacts of climate change. The report shows the Trudeau government has a moral obligation to protect children; an international law obligation; and an obligation under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Includes contributions from the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights’ working group on the environment and children’s rights.

Climate change is an intergenerational injustice. Our document points out that the youth of today and those still unborn are inheriting a world that will be markedly worse due to the greed and the negligence of those profiting and prospering today.
